The Hanshaws
Both of the Hanshaws' musical experiences started
early. David's while he was still in school in Tucson, AZ ... when the other students were attending the school dances, he was playing them with his band, and
Kelly began singing professionally right out of high school. The two performers met in Tucson while working some of the same venues. Later, they started working together. The two married and hit the road together ... the rest is history.
They are now an acoustic duo performing as The Hanshaws. Their years of performing together have perfected an amazingly tuneful unison; David and Kelly's harmonies are absolutely incredible! The talented pair is currently playing Houston and the surrounding areas, as well as spending time in the studio finishing up a new CD project.

Texas Songwriter Showcase
Some of the best singer songwriters from around the state of Texas grace the JPHH stage on
the second Friday of each month. The featured artists for this evening's showcase are Gordon Payne and April Kelly.
Gordon Payne: Professional songwriter, musician and author, Gordon Payne's songs have sold over 10,000,000 records and have earned three Gold Records. Artists to record his songs include; Reba McEntire, Rosanne Cash, The Statler Brothers, Linda Davis, Johnny Rodriguez, Joe Stampley and Moe Bandy, John Schneider, The Crickets, The Whites, Waylon Jennings, and others. He penned "Some Things Are Meant to Be" which was recorded by Linda Davis and reached number one. Through the 1970s Gordon was Waylon Jennings’ right-hand man as a guitarist, singer and harmonica player. His music has been described as "lusty, potent, hot and often slyly humorous, the kind of sound you will enjoy wrapping yourself up in."
April Kelly: Someone said that April writes like "Carole King meets Sheryl Crow" and has a strong voice reminiscent of Carly Simon. But, as nice as these comparisons are, April has a sound that's truly all her own. A songwriting chameleon, her music is a mix of emotional highs and lows: She'll take you to the depths of emotion and next, she'll 'zing' you with a humorous song that's witty, profound or just plain crazy.
Michael Pope: Co-founder and co-host of this showcase, Michael has been writing songs for a few years now. Many of his original's are open tuned, 5 finger picking, folk jazz instrumentals, but his lyrics are strong and reflect his life's experiences. Michael has one CD to his credit so far.
Willie B: Willie describes himself as a bluesy guitar player, but he is so much more. He is a gifted and diverse guitar player who writes and performs in many musical genres. Willie writes and sings songs around the people in his life. He has been a past recipient of HFBSA's "Song of the Year" and "Songwriter of the Year". Willie has recorded four albums to date and is currently working on his fifth solo project.
The Texas Songwriters' Showcase is the longest running showcase in Houston. These songwriters will take to the stage to entertain you with colossal musical talent and wide-ranging experience ... you will not be disappointed.

Chicago Red
Chicago Red is a singer/songwriter/guitarist of acoustic delta blues. Born in 1955 on the westside of Chicago, Red began playing piano at the age of six, switching to guitar at age twelve, and by fifteen was playing and listening to the music of the Chicago Blues scene. Seeing Muddy Waters and Howling Wolf perform, as well as meeting Louis Armstrong and Count Basie as a ten year old had a lasting impact on his life. The experiences gave him a passion for creating music of his own, while respecting the classic masters of the blues. Red has lived in New Orleans, but is now based in Los Angeles, California.

"Utterly human dirt-under-the-fingernails music from a naturalistic blues
master." ~ Gary Von Tersch, Big City Blues Magazine, Detroit/Chicago
"I really like your brand of blues Red. It's spinnin' here."
~ James "Blueshound" Nagle, KPFT 90.1 FM Houston and 89.5 FM Galveston

The Moe Hansum Band

This 4-member band,
hailing from Houston, Texas, performs Americana music with a strong emphasis on traditional acoustic blues. Their Texas-bred music

Moe Hansum Band
blends folk blues with a splash of the soul and rhythm of the Mississippi Delta blues. In concert the band presents a variety of their original tunes, complemented by little-known covers from artists such as Bukka White, Robert Johnson and Jimmy Reed. The Moe Hansum Band has been together in many incarnations since the early 1990's.
The instrumentation currently consists of two acoustic and resonator guitarists, Mike Durbin and Chuck Schwarz, upright acoustic bassist Sandy Buller and drummer Stephan B. Miller. They have performed at the Kerrville Folk Festival and many other locations across Texas. This band of exceptionally talented musicians is always a JP Hops House favorite. Moe's music can be healing and therapeutic for those longing for an authentic voice in traditional and modern folk blues.

Brian Ashley Jones with Tisha Simeral

Brian Ashley Jones is a versatile singer, guitarist and songwriter who draws from a variety of traditional music to create his own brand of Americana. Jones is heavily influenced by the bluegrass, country and Southern rock that he heard as a child in the upstate area of South Carolina and in the early days of his music career in central Georgia.
Now based in Nashville, Tennessee, BAJ maintains an active performance schedule, averaging 200 live shows a year in the USA and Europe. Jones focuses on his own creative projects these days after years of working as a sideman playing guitar, bass and mandolin for other artists including Eric Heatherly, Caroline Aiken,

Donna Hopkins, Michael Tolcher, Bomshel, David Gans, Ralph Roddenbery, Deep Blue Sun, Paper Sun, and Lisen Elwin.
His first CD of original material, Come Out and Play, was released in 1997. 2002 saw the release of his second CD, Courier and 2007 finds BAJ about to release his third CD of original material featuring Hammond B3 artist Ike Stubblefield, drummer Steve Ebe and harmonica player Ian Walker.
Jones’ new acoustic trio featuring dobro/pedal steel artist Mark Van Allen and bassist Tisha Simeral is in the studio recording songs for an additional 2007 release and finalizing plans for a summer tour.
Tisha Simeral, also living in Nashville, is a professional bassist who plays electric bass and string bass with a wide variety of artists. In addition to Brian Ashley Jones, Tisha has worked with guitarist Mel Deal, country artist Eric Heatherly, veteran rocker Ron Keel, "edu-tainer" Joel Reese and vocalist Christina Watson. She has performed on the General Jackson Showboat and played with the Nashville Chamber Orchestra String Quintet and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra Pops.
