Twilight
Hotel
Hailing from the fertile
music community of Winnipeg, MB, Zdan & Quanbury
met in 2002 at a folk festival and realized the
power of combining their talents.
|
|
|
Twilight
Hotel have been compared to memorable folk duos
because they radiate that certain elusive chemistry
that can only come from two people in love singing
together. Couples that make music together rarely
find harmony in their relationships; Zdan and
Quanbury are hoping to buck the trend with their
personal and musical partnership in Twilight Hotel.
Constant touring in North
America & Europe continue to bolster the duos
profile. In 2007/2008 they played over 250 North
American/Europe tour dates. Performance highlights
for 2008 include Trafalger Square in London, England
for the Canada Day Celebrations, mainstage at
the infamous Kerville Folk Festival in Kerville,
TX, and the Bremenale Festival in Bremen, Germany.
Twilight Hotel has teamed
up with producer Colin Linden to record, Highway
Prayer, the follow up album to their
critically acclaimed 2006 release Bethune
(nominated Best Americana Album at the 2007 American
Independent Music Awards). Highway Prayer
continues the duo's provocative love story showcasing
their characteristic dark twang and noir cabaret
all the while centered around their rich vocal
harmonies.
"Twilight Hotel, a most
winning pair. Dave and Brandy are not only musically
talented and engaging, but they are innovative,
fresh and original. They somehow manage to blend
a Parisian cabaret sound, vintage rock, country
and their original style into one cohesive, highly
entertaining sound. I doubt they'll be playing
small clubs much longer." ~ Rich Warren, WFMT
Chicago
This is the hottest couple
to join musical voices in years. The aptly titled
band of two presents dark, road songs that sizzle
on and seduce off stage. Two guitars or a guitar
accompanied by accordion, two rich vocals, two
composer-lyricists: Twilight Hotel fills a whole
band's bill with only two members.

Texas Songwriter Showcase
Some of the best singer
songwriters from around the state of Texas grace
the JPHH stage on the second Friday of each month.
The featured artists for this evening's showcase
are Kim Kyle
and Austin's Ricky
Stein.
Kim Kyle:
More info on Kim is coming soon.
Ricky Stein: With
a style that hearkens back to the days of Doug
Sahm, Townes Van Zandt, and a young Bruce Springsteen,
Ricky's music can be described as Americana, but
should not be limited as such. Influences such
as Wilco, My Morning Jacket, and the White Stripes
are equally as evident in the songs he writes
as are the work of Springsteen, Dylan, and the
Rolling Stones. In any case, two things are evident
from watching or listening to the 25-year old
Austinite perform: he has an utmost passion and
appreciation for music and a natural talent for
pleasing a crowd. His debut album Crazy
Days, released in May of this year, is
a collection of ten original songs.
 |
Willie B: Willie
describes himself as a bluesy guitar player, but
he is so much more. He is a gifted and diverse
guitar player who writes and performs in many
musical genres. Willie writes and sings songs
around the people in his life. He has been a past
recipient of HFBSA's "Song of the Year"
and "Songwriter of the Year". Willie
has recorded four albums to date and is currently
working on his fifth solo project.
The Texas Songwriters' Showcase
is the longest running showcase in Houston. These
songwriters will take to the stage to entertain
you with colossal musical talent and wide-ranging
experience ... you will not be disappointed.

Hans
York
2008
Kerrville New Folk Winner, Hans York creates music
with brilliant emotional momentum. He's a consummate
musician, traveling between folk, jazz, and pop
effortlessly, while his voice soars above it all.
Seeing him live, you understand that you are experiencing
a world-class talent. His joy is infectious and
his chops are superior. His voice feels smooth,
silky, and unique, with a breathtaking three octave
range that pulls you right in.
German-born,
Seattle-based, Award winning singer-songwriter and
multi-instrumentalist Hans York has quickly made
himself a name as an extraordinary DADGAD player
and strong, engaging performer with a distinctive
style and an irrepressibly delightful and approachable
manner.
Hans
accompanied Robert Palmer on German TV, toured as
bassist with the New York Broadway Ensemble, played
throughout Europe with master harp player Rüdiger
Oppermann, and performed a Concerto as Soloist on

"Fata Morgana" features US saxophonist
Charlie Mariano and producer/saxophonist Heinrich

Samba, Bossa Nova and popular Brazilian music, an
experience that upon his return to Germany, inspired
his first solo album Hazzazar.
His
2008 album Young Amelia is a low-key gem
showcasing York's impressive acoustic guitar playing,
appealing tenor and strong songwriting skills. Self-produced
and recorded live in the studio in a mere two and
a half days with the help of some talented friends.

York is a world musician in the true sense of the
term, drawing most of his present day inspiration
from his vast eclectic background.
