Hank Woji CD Release
Party
This
Jersey born singer songwriter has quietly been
building a strong catalog of work and an avid
following since his move from Manhattan to Houston. Hank's music
draws compar-isons to Arlo Guthrie and Cat Stevens.
He was recently a finalist in the 2007 South Florida
Folk Festival Songwriting Contest and the Suwannee
Springfest 2007 Songwriting Competition. His
first CD, Medallion, released in 2005,
combined elements of folk, blues, and rock with
Brasilian, Cuban, African and Indian rhythms.
 |
Hank’s latest effort is pure Americana! With song styles ranging from Bluegrass and country through folk, blues and rock & roll, Hank paints an insightful portrait of our fast fading American dream. Featuring an 'All Star Cast' of Houston based musicians, including Ken Gaines, Jack Saunders, TC Smythe, Jeff Duncan and Mark Zeus, American Dreams will inspire you to “raise your voices for justice and peace”. Performing onstage tonight with Hank are Thomas Helton on doublebass, Mike Mizma on drums and Mark Zeus on mandolin.

Hank Woji stands out from the pack of singer/songwriters by conjuring a sound that is at the same time richly textured and intimate. Singing in a voice that is slightly hoarse and understated, Hank evokes the best elements of Arlo Guthrie and Cat Stevens. ~ Houston Music News

Texas Songwriter Showcase
Some of the best singer songwriters from around
the state of Texas grace the JPHH stage on the
second Friday of each month.
The
featured artists for this evening's showcase are TC Smythe and Lesli Krafka.
TC Smythe :
Details coming soon.
Leslie Krafka: Music was my santuary when I was young and it was always the words that meant the most to me. Fast forward 25 years and here I am at mid-life angst where music is again my santuary. Only this time I'm making the music, practicing my craft, and enjoying every second.
Willie
B: Willie describes himself as a bluesy guitar
player, but he is so much more. He is a gifted
and diverse guitar player who writes and performs
in many musical genres. Willie writes and sings
songs around the people in his life. He has been
a past recipient of HFBSA's "Song
of the Year" and "Songwriter of the
Year". Willie has recorded four albums to
date and is currently working on his fifth solo
project.
The Texas
Songwriters' Showcase
is
the
longest running
showcase in Houston. These songwriters will take
to the stage to entertain you with colossal musical
talent
and
wide-ranging
experience ... you
will not be disappointed.

Travis Stephenson brings his top-notch guitar playing to the mix in just the right proportions. The result is a unit that delivers dynamic, memorable performances. Whether it’s gritty, Reso driven Blues from the Mississippi Delta or a taste of Louisiana, DuPree and Stephenson bring it every time.

Ben
Morris and The Great American Box Car Chorus
I have always tried to live my life with
a whole lot of heart and plenty of soul.
Throughout
his music inner thoughts and raw emotions are
shared with the exactness and bare bones honesty
of a personal journal, with a passionate nod to
story-tellers like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. |
|
Live
performance began early on for Ben, and found
its musical debut in a duo out of Texas
A&M University called Jeff and Ben (JAB).
Their first written song, We Dont
Wear No Underwear On Our Foreheads, was
an instant hit on the living room scene and sofa
circuit. In a short time,
this budding Texas performer has already been
privileged to share the stage with Hayes Carll,
Mark David Manders, Eli Young Band, Pauline Reese,
Phil Pritchett, Deryl Dodd, and many other fine
Texas artists.
If
yall dont love this band
something
is wrong with your genetics.
~ Mark David Manders
With a new sound and a new record, Ben Morris
is stepping forward. The Other Side of Broken exposes melancholy realities while inspiring hope
for the future and a confidence that the human
spirit is rebounding and unsinkable.
To me, life is so much richer when you live
from the inside out.
On
this very special night the band Ben will be joined
by his band The Boxcar Chorus. (I love that name.)
Band members are Coby Tate flying across the frets
as lead guitarist, Jon Dittfurth playing bass
guitar and singing background vocals and Bucky
Bachmeyer hitting the sticks as the drummer.
With all this young, fresh talent and energy,
this night will be a lot of fun!! I am looking
forward to this show, hope you can join us!
