Cheevers

"I
don't know if these stories are true ...
but they happened to me." ~ Bob Cheevers |
Bob
Cheevers
has earned a place in the landscape now called
Americana Music, having charted Top 20 in that
genre with his last two CDs. Bob grew up in Memphis
and got a soul full of music, not only from the
icons of his youth such as Elvis and Johnny Cash,
but also from his mother, who was a radio star
during the Great Depression performing with the
Big Bands of that era. So from an early age, Bob's
creative feet were firmly planted in Mississippi
Delta mud.
Following
his musical dream lead Bob into the pop field
in Hollywood, then on to the country and roots
music of Nashville. Of course, there have been
stops
in between to gather the tools and trophies
of his career. Included among those accomplishments
are a Regional
Emmy Award for Music Video of "Big City
Gambler", sang theme song to Love, American
Style as member of Peppermint Trolley Company,
winner
of a Napa Valley Folk Festival Songwriting Award,
as well as the Kerrville Folk Festival's prestigious
New Folk Competition, and the honor of having
been personally asked by Johnny Cash to open
Cashs last tour.
Cheevers'
songs feature characters whose lives reflect the
lifestyle along the rivers of the South over the
past hundred years.
As a seasoned songwriter and performer, Bob has
found his own voice - spinning rootsy, blues-flavoured
tales of the Delta in a conversational language
of the heart.

6th Annual John
Prine Birthday
Party
Musicians perform John Prine songs ALL
NIGHT LONG! A fan's dream come true! All
musicians interested
in performing add your name to the list of "Prine"
players as soon as you arrive. The
evening's open mic format will allow a greater number
and variety of artists to take part. There
is one restriction: you must play John Prine
songs only.
A scrumtuous birthday cake, colorful balloons and
a birthday card to relay everyone's wishes (we'll
be sending it on to John), together with the music,
will ensure a birthday celebration to remember.

Texas Songwriter Showcase
Some of the best singer songwriters from around
the state of Texas grace the JPHH stage on the
second Friday of each month.
The
featured artists for this evening's showcase are
Donna
Frost and April
Kelly.
Donna
Frost: This native Nashville independent artist
is dedicated to her creative spirit, regularly
performing across the US, the Caribbean and the
UK. Donna has a truly distinctive style, which
blends folk, blues & pop. Her latest CD, "Feels
Like Home" has been added to many play lists
overseas as well as indie stations in the US.
April
Kelly: Someone
said that April writes like "Carole King
meets Sheryl Crow" and has a strong voice
reminiscent of Carly Simon. But, as nice as these
comparisons are, April has a sound that's truly
all her own. A songwriting chameleon, her music
is a mix of emotional highs and lows: She'll take
you to the depths of emotion and next, she'll
'zing' you with a humorous song that's witty,
profound or just plain crazy.
Jeff
Hoofard: Jeff
has been playing drums for local and national
acts since 1986 sharing the stage with such icons
as Bo Diddley and Chubby Checker as well as some
of Texas best acoustic artists. He has been
the percussionist of choice on several recording
projects and is currently playing with Willie
B & The Silverbacks. Tonight
he is our "house" percussionist.
Michael
Pope: Co-founder and co-host of this showcase,
Michael has been writing songs for a couple years
now. Many of his original's are open tuned, 5
finger picking, folk jazz instrumentals, but his
lyrics are strong and reflect his life's experiences.
Michael recently released his debut album.
Willie
B: Willie describes himself as a bluesy guitar
player, but he is so much more. He is a gifted
and diverse guitar player who writes and performs
in many musical genres. Willie writes and sings
songs around the people in his life. He has won
"Song of the Year" and "Songwriter
of the Year" in HFBSA. Willie has recorded
four albums to date.
The
Texas
Songwriters' Showcase
always fills the stage with vast musical experience,
guaranteeing that the show will be an exhilarating
musical phenomenon! Come experience the phenom!

Bill
Hearne Trio
These
days Bill Hearne is performing regularly as
part of the Bill Hearne Trio; joined by Cathy
Faber on upright bass and vocals, and Bob Goldstein
on acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, banjo,
harmonica, and vocals. Long
established as the flat-pickin'
guitarist
half of Bill & Bonnie Heane,
Bonnie was the one pounding
it out on the honky tonk piano,
Bill is now venturing forth with
his Santa
Fe, New Mexico ensemble.
The trio is making a swing across Texas this
month and will be gracing the stage at our humble
establishment this evening. Come show your support
for a true legend of country music.
| |
Bill
and Bonnie Hearne are Southwestern club
legends who have influenced artists ranging
from Lyle Lovett to Jerry Jeff Walker, Nanci
Griffith and Tish Hinojosa.

Mark
Jungers Band
Mark
Jungers is no stranger to the Americana roots music
scene. He's been playing it for years- since well
before the term "Americana" was coined-
because in his world, country, roots rock, folk,
and bluegrass music need not be mutually exclusive.
Mark and his band play what is the heart of Americana:
gutsy, unpretentious music filled with spirit and
spontaneity.
|
|
The
uniqueness and variety of Mark Jungers' music is
well demonstrated by the bills the band has shared.
They have played with The Derailers, Gary P. Nunn,
Slaid Cleaves, Slobberbone, Sisters Morales, Roger
Creager, Trout Fishing in America, Billy Joe Shaver,
Charlie Robison, Cooder Graw, and the list goes
on
Mark's
commitment to the art of songwriting remains evident
on his third release. His songs, real and honest,
capture the American spirit. Hearty musicianship
only adds to the experience. All of the songs on
One For the Crow are masterfully arranged and produced,
exemplifying Lars Goransson's well deserved title
as Best Producer in the 2004 Austin Music Awards.
This CD will capture national attention
or
something's terribly wrong.
