Larry
Sepulvado
CD Release Party
Larry Sepulvado's upcoming first CD release, Cajun
Cats, Creole Dogs has been, what Larry
might contend as, two lifetimes in the making.
Larry's Americana roots' spin on Lousiana swamp
rock and cajun music fits comfortably between
the outskirts of Lafayette, Louisiana and the
country dance halls of Beaumont, Texas.
The dictionary defines "phoenix" as..
"rising from the ashes with renewed youth
to live through another cycle" and, "as
a person regarded as uniquely remarkable in some
respect". In the over thirty years I have
known Larry Sepulvado he has risen from the ashes
more than once & is remarkable in several
respects.
The CD is dedicated to Larry's dad who was born
and raised in southern Louisiana and is a paean
to the spirit of one of Larry's heroes, Tony Joe
White, but with a decidedly different spice.
With the phoenix on the rise again there is reason
to believe Larry's best work lies before him!
As he rises from the ashes grab a wing and lend
an ear as Larry Sepulvado once again takes flight
on another creative journey. (Taken from Larry's
bio by Darren McMillian.)
Opening act will be News On The March.

Matt
Harlan
CD Release Party
Houston songwriter, Matt
Harlan, has just finished his much-anticipated
studio album, Tips & Compliments.
Matt will be bringing special guest musicians
to help fill out the tunes and give a glimpse
of what the new record sounds like. Join us for
the official Houston CD Release Party ... there
will be food provided and CDs aplenty!
Matt is a songwriter's
songwriter, composing scenic landscapes and pointed
statements disguised as songs ... often non-linear,
but always melodic. Harlan's works confront social
norms, celebrate lives overlooked, or just wax
poetic about coffee and bus-stops. Whatever the
inspiration, the music is always heartfelt and
genuine. Matt took First Place in the 2006 American
Songwriter Lyric Contest for his song "Waiting
For Godot."

The
Songbenders
The vision that would become The Songbenders
began in Houston, Texas in early 2009. Five
singer/songwriters decided to band together
to perform as a group, sharing the stage, their
music and their lyrical stories with others.
The Songbenders came together as a result of
performing with each other in various formations
in a Writers-in-the-Round format.
These occasions helped forge a friendship and
mutual respect between them as fellow songwriters.
With their various personal backgrounds and
somewhat differing musical styles, The Songbenders
present songs that reflect the full range of
human emotions and real life situations.
 |
While Songbender performances mostly follow
the same in-the-round format, there is always
some onstage collaboration between the members
with added music and harmonies, the telling
of tall tales, the occasional special
guests, and the all-important audience
sing-alongs, etc., insuring that some very cool
things always happen at a Songbender show. For
The Songbenders, banding together felt like
a very real and natural occurrence: it felt
like the right thing to do.

Paper
Windows
CD Release Party
This all acoustic band formed in early 2007 as
a trio ... just a few friends wanting to play
music. A year later they added a fourth member
and began to gain a small following that started
with friends and family after a regular monthly
date to play at their UU church.
Their following has grown as the band has played
various open mics, bars, pubs and made three showings
at the UU Spring Music Festival. Paper Windows'
music is driven by the rhythm guitar of Rob Barreda,
who also writes most of the lyrics and sings for
the band. Jennifer Bosch provides the sweet texture
of violin and viola melodies over the punchy,
moving bass lines delivered by George Cook. And,
John Hammer provides the back beat that keeps
them all in time.
Paper Windows can definitely be described as being
much greater than the sum of its parts, playing
music that might be best described as indie pop,
acoustic rock or alternative folk.

Butch
Morgan with
Eric
Hanke
Able to hold any audience with his true to life
songs, stories, and his sense of humor, Butch
Morgan is a top notch entertainer who gives
his best every gig.
His songs have been covered
by the likes of The Georgia Satelites, the Dusters,
the Flying A's, Mitch Web & the Swindles and
others.
He has won several notable
songwriting awards including The Wildflower Music
Festrival Song Writing Contest, finalist in the
Mountain Stage Newsong Competition 08', finalist
at the Kerrville Folk Festival Newfolk Contest
(05' & 08'), and honorable mention in the
recent Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest.
Butch has been a regular
on the San Antonio music scene since the 70s,
breaking ground by merging country, rock, folk
and all the other influences in his life into
original songs filled with insightful lyrics and
catchy melodies. Other artists cover his material
and his songs have virtually become anthems.
He has also refined the
craft of 'putting on the show', a consumate ringmaster
making sure a good time is had by all. Crowds
of loyal fans all over Texas sing along with his
originals and marvel at the energy and the innovative
new twists he brings to the standards.
Joining Butch in concert
this evening will be the youthful singer songwriter
Eric Hanke touting his "original Americana
music from the Austin Hill Country".
Within the pack of Nelson/Keen
acolytes, most of whom seem content to pen boozy
shoutalongs that sound like shopping lists being
read aloud, can be found songwriters like Eric
Hankethank God. Hanke, a Dallas native,
counts not only Willie Nelson and Robert Earl
Keen but Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan,
Johnny Cash, and Woody Guthrie among his heroes.
~ Leo McKinney
Eric's CD Autumn Blues
was received positively by both critics and fans;
and the release of his lastest production, Factory
Man, is being eagerly awaited.
