(that's Oktoberfest in November)
Mark Halata & Texavia
Got polka shoes?
Join us tonight for beer, bratwurst and polka.
Mark Halata and his band, Texavia, have made a name for themselves on the polka party scene. Being Texas State Accordion Champion at the age of 13 didn't exactly make Mark Halata a big man on his junior high school campus during the MTV '80s.
Mark is unfashionably in tune with the Czech-Moravian music of his ancestry. He taught himself to play during his formative years. The songs he performs today are songs he has performed his entire life.
So grab a cold beer, a dance partner and have a listen. If you close your eyes, you may find yourself in Hallettsville, Moravia, Praha, Shiner, a country beer joint or a Catholic church picnic. Welcome to Texavia, the Texas-Moravian accordion heaven.
The evening is co-sponsored by Saint Arnold Brewery.

Texas Songwriters' Showcase
Some of the best singer songwriters from around the state of Texas grace the JPHH stage on
the second Friday of each month. The featured artists for this evening's showcase are Gary Seber, Jen Rathbun and Zed Daniels.
Gary Seber: When you first hear Gary play, you may find it impossible to believe that you're hearing just one musician! He has studied the innovative style of Preston Reed with it's percussive, two-handed fretboard attack. Gary has composed original material and has completed his first CD.
Jen Rathbun: A Platinum Plus Universal recording artist with 2 CDs to her credit, Jen sings and writes multi-faceted compositions loaded with personality. She's a pro at tickling the ivories, and she'll tickle your fancy as well.
Zed Daniels : His catchy and provocative compositions tap into the soul, covering the lighter and darker sides of life. Zed's message is honest and hopeful, one that will stick with you and make you think and feel from a different perspective. All you have to do is listen. He'll pull you in and keep you there with him...
Michael Pope: Co-founder and co-host of this showcase, Michael has been writing songs for a couple years now. Many of his original's are open tuned, 5 finger picking, folk jazz instrumentals, and his lyrics are strong, reflecting his life's experiences. Michael is currently recording his debut album.
The Texas Songwriters' Showcase always fills the stage with vast musical experience, guaranteeing that the show will be an exhilarating musical phenomenon! Come experience the phenom!

Bobby Bridger
& John Inmon

Bobby Bridger, great-grand nephew of famous American mountain man Jim Bridger, began work on A Ballad of the West over three decades ago. For over a quarter of a century he has traveled the globe performing this historical epic as a one-man show to audiences in America, Canada, Europe, Australia and Russia.

Bobby began his professional recording career in 1967 in Nashville. He has since wrote, produced and recorded several albums including, Heal In The Wisdom, Live At Kerrville.
Bridger has performed on PBS’s Austin City Limits, ABC’s Good Morning America, A & E, National Public Radio and C-Span/BookNotes.
He has performed at every Kerrville Folk Festival, served on the festival’s board of directors since 1978, wrote the festival’s anthem, Heal In The Wisdom, and suggested the popular “Ballad Tree” to festival founder Rod Kennedy.
In 1988 Bobby was invited to Oxford University to perform Heal In The Wisdom during closing ceremonies or the First Global Forum of Spiritual and Parlimentary Leaders on Human Survival; featured presenters were the Dali Lama, Mother Theresa, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and Carl Sagan.
His epic trilogy, A Ballad of the West now runs in repertory each summer in Cody, Wyoming.
Bridger is the author of a hardback and paperback edition of A Ballad of the West and in November, 2002 the University of Texas Press published Bridger’s Buffalo Bill and Sitting Bull: Inventing The Wild West. He has also contributed essays to anthologies on American western literary giants John G. Neihardt and Frank Waters. Bridger will teach one day a week at the University of Texas each fall term through 2005.
His peers know John Inmon as one of the finest guitarists in Austin, Texas (and, considering the competition, that is high praise indeed). His fans know him as the signature guitar style that has at one time or another propelled the music of Townes van Zandt, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely, Delbert McClinton, Marcia Ball, Omar and the Howlers, Lost Gonzo Band, Bruce Robison, Pat Green, Michael Martin Murphy, Keith Sykes, and most famously, Jerry Jeff Walker, for over three decades.
In addition to performing with those artists, John has also recorded with the cream of Texas' singer-songwriter and country-rock communities. His album credits include work with the aforementioned folks, as well as sessions with Delbert McClinton, Robert Earl Keen, Townes Van Zandt, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Willie Nelson, Joe Ely, and even, God help him, Tom Jones. (The eighties, as John and many others have noted, was a strange decade).
"I'm very excited that John Inmon will be playing with me. As a founding member of the legendary Lost Gonzo Band, I'm honored he's been my friend and associate for 35 years." ~ Bobby Bridger
The signature sound of Texas music has always resided in the guitar. Our Lone Star State has always been a hot bed of string-bending guitar wizards, including one with the name, John Inmon.
Join us, this will be an incredible show of legendary Texas Music!

Kinky Friedman for Governor 2006
First Harvest House Party
Political volunteers and fans of the musically inclined mystery writer and animal rescue guru will gather around the state this evening for First Harvest House Parties. These 'parties with a purpose' are to raise awareness and support for Kinky's gubernatorial bid. JPHH is pleased to 'house' the Houston House Party for the westside of town. Highlighting the evening's activities will be a conference call from the Kinkster himself. Tonight's your opportunity to join the growing ranks of volunteers, learn of the candidate's political positions, donate to the cause or take the Kinky Friedman Lone Star Pledge. Together we can help STOP the Woosification of our great state by supporting Kinky Friedman for governor of Texas in 2006. Chips, queso and salsa will be provided for your munching enjoyment - plus, the Fowler Brothers will be performing following the political hoopla.

Fahl & Folk
The band Fahl & Folk is the newest vehicle for David Fahl’s music. The basic sound is the traditional folkie vocal, acoustic guitar, and harmonica, with Michael Farber’s electric bass adding a groove that turns up the energy level way past the cliched mellow associated (often in error) with the folksinger trip. This pair is frequently augmented by Jimmy Deen on acoustic and electric guitars, and Chaz Nadege on keyboard and snare drum.
The Fahl & Folk sound is both familiar and innovative. The instrumentation is simple and familiar-sounding. The songs hit comfortable grooves and go places where folksingers are seldom heard. Fahl’s songs come from a perspective that uses all the traditions we hear around us and twists them into new combinations, telling stories about lovers, murderers, and the helpless schmoes who just have a hard time dealing with life in this bizarre new millenium. When the band does a cover tune, it’s rarely one from the standards of ‘classic rock’, and it never sounds like the way you’re used to hearing it.
So come hear for yourself!

Fertitta and McClintock
Raised in the port town of Beaumont Texas, these two Forest Park High School mates were always involved in music from an early age. Leaving Beaumont for the big city of Houston, David Fertitta and Steven McClintock performed for the Steak and Ale chain as well as locking in the coveted club gig at the
Lion Bar for the famed Galleria Houston Oaks Hotel. It was there Fertitta and McClintock’s unique acoustic sound was formed and their versatile writing skills honed. After a year they decided to head for Los Angeles, where in 1977, the pair quickly signed a publishing deal with Island Music (Lionel Conway) and subsequently a record deal with the legendary Clive Davis and his newly founded label Arista Records.
Produced by the multi platinum Canadian producers Fred Mollin and Matthew McCauley celebrating a recent #1 international hit with Dan Hill (Sometimes When We Touch), it seemed that Fertitta and McClintock were on their way. But as fate would have it, the business took a dramatic musical change into disco followed immediately by new wave and punk leaving Clive Davis and the producers at odds as to what direction to take the talented acoustic balladeers. The record was never released.
The duet ended and both went on different musical paths collectively writing songs for movies and TV, commercial jingles and many other recording acts. Starting in the late 1970’s both had extensive cuts as songwriters with such artist as Juice Newton, Lorrie Morgan, Sixwire, Andy Williams, Tiffany, ATC, David Pomeranzt, Victoria Shaw, Pat Boone, Diamond Rio, Paul Jefferson, Rose Maddox and dozens of foreign releases.
Advance ahead 25 years to a chance meeting between the duo and their former producer Fred Mollin in Nashville at a Canadian industry event. Fred, having gone on to produce America, Eddie Money, Jimmy Webb, Kris Kristofferson to name a few, offered to finish the record that was never released. Fertitta and McClintock were back and on the move.
Recording 14 songs in Nashville with some of the finest musicians alive today cutting songs from the past and present, selling out their first three shows in Los Angeles and basically continuing where they left off, this talent vocal duo is primed and ready to finish the job they started back in 1975. They are now seasoned professionals with a vocal sound and original music that rivals anything in the market place today or yesterday.
Tonight marks Fertitta and McClintock’s first performance in Houston since 1975. We are extremely pleased they have chosen JP Hops House for this memorable event. Fellow high school mate, Brian Kalinec, will present the opening set this evening.
