'bout Time LIVE CD Recording
Come lend your energy, support, applause
and hoots 'n' hollers ... come be a part of tonight's
LIVE CD recording.
'bout
Time is an acoustic trio that celebrates not just
music, but the audiences that come to see them.
From the wonderful voice and larger than life
persona of Allison Bentley, to the powerful vocals
of Helen Thompson, to the total lack of musicmanship
of Russell Dodge, they entertain, amaze, and frighten
audiences everywhere. Their strengths are their
incredible...uh...timing, stage presence, sense
of humor, and vocal harmonies. Their weakness
is, of course, Russell.
 |
'bout
Time was formed in 1999 with Russell Dodge and
Allison Bentley. After a few years, Allison got
hitched and in a family way almost at the same
time. Anyway, not willing to cope with the new
family AND Russell at the same time, Allison asked
The Devine Ms. Helen Thompson if she would be
willing to take on the responsibility of grooming
and molding Russell into his absolute mediocre
best. Despite first cursing Allison and her new
husband, Helen agreed to take on the Herculean
task. Helen cracked the whip (on more than one
occasion) and has pretty much accomplished this
feat. Russell is without a doubt mediocre in the
truest sense of the word.
In
2003, Allison returned and 'bout Time became a
trio. The experiment is still ongoing, and short
of genetic engineering, it will never be perfect.
But it is always entertaining.

Texas Songwriter Showcase
Some of the best singer songwriters from around
the state of Texas grace the JPHH stage on the
second Friday of each month.
The featured artists for this evening's showcase
are
Danny Everitt
and Selia
Quinn.
Danny Everitt: Whether he's performing
his own material, or you're hearing it recorded
and performed by other artists, you can tell immediately
that Danny does more than pen great songs. His
are warm, bright, spirited, upbeat, soulful, rhythmic,
and moving songs. They carry just enough familiarity
so as not to alienate, yet carry more than enough
originality to gently lift the listener off of
familiar turf and into the realm of new discovery.
It's why some of his greatest admirers-and closest
friends-are among the more popular singers and
songwriters of our time.
Selia
Qynn: A
natural storyteller, Selia's image-rich lyrics
make you think, imagine, remember, and believe
in magic. She
plays acoustic folk with an almost medieval, jazzy
flavor, and with
four CDs of original material, this compelling
artist has an impressive repertoire. Selia also
enjoys mixing in oldie cover tunes in her shows
that weaves a nostalgic ambience that will take
you away and then send you home with a lingering
melody.
Michael
Pope: Co-founder and co-host of this showcase,
Michael has been writing songs for a couple years
now. Many of his original's are open tuned, 5
finger picking, folk jazz instrumentals, but his
lyrics are strong and reflect his life's experiences.
Michael recently released his debut album.
Willie
B: Willie describes himself as a bluesy guitar
player, but he is so much more. He is a gifted
and diverse guitar player who writes and performs
in many musical genres. Willie writes and sings
songs around the people in his life. He has won
"Song of the Year" and "Songwriter
of the Year" in HFBSA. Willie has recorded
four albums to date.
The
Texas
Songwriters' Showcase
always fills the stage with vast musical experience,
guaranteeing that the show will be an exhilarating
musical phenomenon! Come experience the phenom!

Opie
Hendrix & the Texas Tallboys
Awarded
as Best Roots Rock/Rockabilly band at the
2003 Houston Press Music Awards, Opie's musical
well runs too deep for him to be easily pigeonholed.
Renowned throughout the Lone Star State as an electrical
live performer, Opie has built a solid repertoire,
and a reputation for his unique songwriting with
genuine passion for his craft.
| |
"One
source described his music as 'Willie Nelson
meets Elvis Costello;' pretty accurate, but
even that can't sum up the wealth of talent
in this tunester. Opie's song writing takes
tradition and distorts it into innovation."
