Michael Marcoulier & Anthony Klonaris
Michael Marcoullier is no stranger to the Houston music scene from back in the day when Michael, John Vandiver, Shake Russell and Dana Cooper ruled Texas music stages. Tonight he is teamed with guitarist Anthony Klonaris. Anthony's extremely diverse musical background includes everything from classical to rock to country and jazz. Good things are worth waiting for and the return of Michael and Anthony is definitely one of them. Join us in welcoming them back to the JPHH stage.

Blake and Fallon
Among the myriad of artists who have emerged from Austin in the last five years, few have generated more excitement among fans, critics, and industry insiders than Blake Powers & Fallon Franklin. Their live shows seamlessly blend elements of singer/songwriter, pop, rock, and blues genres. Formed in July of 2002, the band has already been recognized as a bright, creative force in Americana music with the release of their albums, Lines and Red Lights. They appear poised to assert themselves on the Pop and Rock scenes as well.
Guitarist and vocalist Blake Powers is an accomplished songwriter whose credits include being named a finalist in the Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Category in 2002 and winning the distinguished BW Stevenson songwriting award the same year. Powers style evokes strong comparisons to classic singer/songwriters like Van Morrison, Paul Simon, James Taylor, and David Gray.
Joining Powers on vocal duties is Fallon Franklin. Referred to by many in Austin as, simply, “The Voice,” Franklin is a fast rising solo star in her own right, and has the proud honor of being the first solo act ever allowed to perform at the University of Texas’s annual Spring Review. Fallon has shared the stage with Asleep at the Wheel, Vertical Horizon, Pat Green, Cory Morrow, and The Great Divide, and her strong, soulful voice invokes shades of Stevie Nicks and Sheryl Crow.
The duo blends their acoustic rock roots with contemporary jazz production choices and folk-influenced lyricism to create an amazingly intelligent and infectious product that critics are already hailing with 4 star ratings. Help us give them a rousing welcome on their JP Hops House debut.

Texas Songwriter Showcase
Some of the best singer songwriters from around the state of Texas grace the JPHH stage on
the second Friday of each month. The featured artists for this evening's showcase are April Kelly and Carolyn Wallace.
April Kelly: Someone said that April writes like "Carole King meets Sheryl Crow" and has a strong voice reminiscent of Carly Simon. But, as nice as these comparisons are, April has a sound that's truly all her own. A songwriting chameleon, her music is a mix of emotional highs and lows: She'll take you to the depths of emotion and next, she'll 'zing' you with a humorous song that's witty, profound or just plain crazy.
Carolyn Wallace: With lyrics that touch the heart, and rhythms that swirl through your head long after you’ve heard the songs, you will not want to miss the opportunity to experience Carolyn’s music. Her varied style has been described as "Bonnie Raitt meeting Sheryl Crow at Dan Fogelberg’s house to jam".
Jeff Hoofard: Jeff has been playing drums for local and national acts since 1986 sharing the stage with such icons as Bo Diddley and Chubby Checker as well as some of Texas’ best acoustic artists. He has been the percussionist of choice on several recording projects and is currently playing with The Moe Hansum Blues Band. Tonight he is our "house" percussionist.
Willie B: Willie describes himself as a bluesy guitar player, but he is so much more. He is a gifted and diverse guitar player who writes and performs in many musical genres. Willie writes and sings songs around the people in his life. He has won "Song of the Year" and "Songwriter of the Year" in HFBSA. Willie has recorded four albums to date.
The Texas Songwriters' Showcase always fills the stage with vast musical experience, guaranteeing that the show will be an exhilarating musical phenomenon! Come experience the phenom!

March 11, 2006 - Saturday
Guy Schwartz & the New Jack Hippies
Texas' premiere blues, rock, hippie jam band, led by singer/songwriter Guy Schwartz and often including his sidekick/co-writer, Roger Tausz will be jammin' out right here on the JPHH stage.
Schwartz and his merry band of musicians, the New Jack Hippies, can match the enthusiasm of any band. About 30 great musicians make up the core of this band but more than 300 claim membership in the collective, which he describes as a "Texas blues rock hippie jam band." Some play regularly -- like keyboardist Chaz Nadege and Schwartz's long-time collaborator, bassist Roger Tausz -- while others just show up for gigs from time to time. The gigs they've played for the past year have had anywhere from 7 to 18 musicians, of which 3 - 5 are leaders of their own bands. "I never intended to have the responsibility of a band," Schwartz says. "It was an accident."
Guy has played with Muddy Waters, Lionel Hampton, John Lee Hooker, Sam 'Lightning' Hopkins, B.W. Stevenson, Jimmy Reed, Blaze Foley, Roy Head, Sonny James, Little Joe Washington, Trudy Lynn, Fever Tree, Freddy Fender, Chuck Berry, Milton Hopkins, Rick Lee and the Night Owls, Big Daddy Gumbo & the Sheetrockers, Chip Arnold & The Terraplanes, Heath Spencer Philip, Sandy Hickey, Gerald Gray, Michael Williams, Steve Radney, Don Sanders, Ashton Savoy, Opie Hendrix and Gloria Edwards.
His band has opened up for or shared the bill with Todd Rundgren & Utopia, U2, Eddie Harris, Duran Duran, Ramones, Delbert McClinton, Sparks, David Lindley, Little Feat, Huey Lewis and the News, Eric Johnson, Carolyn Wonderland, Muddy Waters, Rush, Golden Earring, Johnny Winter, Romantics, Jeff Beck and ZZ Top.
His songs have been recorded by Gloria Edwards, Relayer, The Calvin Owens Blues Orchestra, Z-Rocks, Kinky Friedman, Opie Hendrix, Anthony Moore, Father's Chief, Heath Spencer Phillip, Little Joe Washington and The New Jack Hippies.
We are very excited and honored to have Guy Schwartz & The New Jack Hippies play here. Never heard them play before? Well, better be here...this is a show you should not miss!

Dana Cooper Band

Americana legend Dana Cooper has wowed crowds throughout the U.S. and Europe recently, with tunes from his newest album, Made of Mud on King Easy Records. William Michael Smith of The Houston Press wrote “The album rumbles with plenty of roots-rock swagger… As a songwriter, Cooper shows he's paid attention during his 30 years of trial-and-error authorship. On Made of Mud, he repeatedly demonstrates personal warmth, intellectual vigor and a Zen grasp of imagery, metaphor, story line and poetics. The album is chock-full of insightful lines…In sum, Made of Mud illustrates why towering talents like Lyle Lovett and Maura O'Connell sing on Cooper's albums and cover his songs. It is as fine a work as Cooper has ever done, a fully realized statement by an artist operating at the height of his powers.”

Shake Russell

From Bar Harbor, Maine to Santa Fe, New Mexico; from Los Angeles, California to Nashville, Tennessee, one can mention among Texas songwriters, the name “Shake Russell” and be virtually assured of interest, pleasure and joyful recognition.
If you’re a true Texan, then Shake Russell’s music has touched your life in some way. If you’re not, it happened without your knowing it. Seventeen million copies of this Texan’s songs have been bought while being recorded by the likes of Clint Black, Ricky Skaggs, Waylon Jennings, and others.
We are always thrilled when Shake chooses to play our humble establishment. This evening's performance will also feature Doug Floyd on mandolin and Mike Roberts will contribute bass. Please help us to welcome them all to the stage at JP Hops House and join us for what promises to be another great "shakin" show.
