Texas Songwriters' Showcase
Some of the best singer songwriters from around
the state of Texas grace the JPHH stage on the
second Friday of each month.
The featured artists for this evening's showcase
are Joey D and Josal.
Joey
D: Joey's
high energy and presence goes beyond stage capacity,
never failing to captivate her audiences. Her
versatility in songwriting is astounding, complemented
by her pounding rhythm guitar. Her music and her
essence proclaim the Rebel Spirit of Texas!
Josal:
Known as the man in the black hat, Josal has been
playing guitar for 40 years and is recognized
locally as an open mic icon. His style is strongly
influenced by Jose Feliciano and his songs reflect
life on the Texas coast, with a country flavor.
Josal weaves phrases of color into his music with
his fingers, leaving his audience spellbound.
Michael
Pope: Co-founder and co-host of this showcase,
Michael has been writing songs for a couple years
now. Many of his original's are open tuned, 5
finger picking, folk jazz instrumentals, but his
lyrics are strong and reflect his life's experiences.
Michael is currently recording his debut album.
Willie
B: Willie describes himself as a bluesy guitar
player, but he is so much more. He is a gifted
and diverse guitar player who writes and performs
in many musical genres. Willie writes and sings
songs around the people in his life. He has won
"Song of the Year" and "Songwriter
of the Year" in HFBSA. Willie has recorded
four albums to date.
The

Hefeweizen Glass Giveaway
Buy
the beer, keep the glass! Draft Hefeweizen has
a smooth body and a cloudy golden color. This
crisp refreshing beer is unfiltered for extra
flavor. Mistakenly
pronounced "Heifer-weizen" by many,
this classic brew is about as far from the brazen
boldness of a large bovine as one can get. Say
"Hay-fuh-vy-'tzen." Gold
Medal Winner at the 2004 Great American Beer
Festival.
Giveaway starts @ 5:00 pm (till they're all
gone)
Chicago
Red
Chicago Red is a singer/songwriter/guitarist
of acoustic delta blues. Born in 1955 on the westside
of Chicago, Red began playing piano at the age
of six, switching to guitar at age twelve, and
by fifteen was playing and listening to the music
of the Chicago Blues scene. Seeing Muddy Waters
and Howling Wolf perform, as well as meeting Louis
Armstrong and Count Basie as a ten year old had
a lasting impact on his life. The experiences
gave him a passion for creating music of his own,
while respecting the classic masters of the blues.
Red has lived in New Orleans, but is now based
in Los Angeles, California.
