Shake Russell Band

From Bar Harbor, Maine to Santa Fe, New Mexico; from Los
Angeles, California to Nashville, Tennessee, one can mention among Texas songwriters, the name “Shake Russell” and be virtually assured of interest, pleasure and joyful recognition. If you’re a true Texan, then Shake Russell’s music has touched your life in some way. If you’re not, it happened without your knowing it. Seventeen million copies of this Texan’s songs have been bought while being recorded by the likes of Clint Black, Ricky Skaggs, Waylon Jennings, and others.
Is your favorite song "Deep In The West", "You've Got A Lover", or perhaps "Put Yourself In My Shoes"? Well, you're sure to hear it tonight.
Congratulations go out to Shake for the nomination of "Cowboy Coffee", co-written with Chuck Hamrick, for Song of the Year at the 2006 Texas Music Awards.
We are always thrilled when Shake chooses to play our humble establishment. This evening's performance will also feature Doug Floyd on mandolin and Mike Roberts will contribute bass. Please make plans to join us for what promises to be another great "shakin" show.

Ben Morris CD Release Party with special guests Ivision
“I have always tried to live my life with a whole lot of heart and plenty of soul.”
We are gathering to celebrate The Other Side of Broken, the debut release from Ben Morris. Throughout his music inner thoughts and raw emotions are shared with the exactness and bare bones honesty of a personal journal, with a passionate nod to story-tellers like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson.
Live performance began early on for Ben, and found it’s musical debut in a duo out of Texas A&M University called Jeff and Ben (JAB). Their first written song, “We Don’t Wear No Underwear On Our Foreheads”, was an instant hit on the living room scene and sofa circuit. One of the songs from his debut record, "Count On Me", is currently #6 on the Radio Free Texas most requested song list! In a short time, this budding Texas performer has already been privileged to share the stage with Hayes Carll, Mark David Manders, Eli Young Band, Pauline Reese, Phil Pritchett, Deryl Dodd, and many other fine Texas artists.
“If ya’ll don’t love this band … something is wrong with your genetics.”
~ Mark David Manders
With a new sound and a new record, Ben Morris is stepping forward. The Other Side of Broken exposes melancholy realities while inspiring hope for the future and a confidence that the human spirit is rebounding and unsinkable.
“To me, life is so much richer when you live from the inside out.”
On this very special night the band Ben will be joined by his band The Boxcar Chorus. (I love that name.) Band members are Coby Tate flying across the frets as lead guitarist, Jon Dittfurth playing bass guitar and singing background vocals and Bucky Bachmeyer hitting the sticks as the drummer.
The date is 7/7/7, proving that '7' just might be your lucky number when this band rolls into town. With all this young, fresh talent and energy, this night will be a lot of fun!! I am looking forward to this show, hope you can join us!

Texas Songwriter Showcase
Some of the best singer songwriters from around the state of Texas grace the JPHH stage on
the second Friday of each month. The featured artists for this evening's showcase are Tim Walker and Bruce Scism.
Tim Walker: With a childhood spread across Texas, Arkansas and Tennessee, and musical influences that include bluegrass, rock 'n' roll and jazz, it's no wonder that Tim writes and plays music that doesn't quite fit any one category. Come experience Tim's moving and soulful talent, present in every song.
Bruce Scism: Check again for information on this Baytown-based singer songwriter.
Michael Pope: Co-founder and co-host of this showcase, Michael has been writing songs for a few years now. Many of his original's are open tuned, 5 finger picking, folk jazz instrumentals, but his lyrics are strong and reflect his life's experiences. Michael has one CD to his credit so far.
Willie B: Willie describes himself as a bluesy guitar player, but he is so much more. He is a gifted and diverse guitar player who writes and performs in many musical genres. Willie writes and sings songs around the people in his life. He has been a past recipient of HFBSA's "Song of the Year" and "Songwriter of the Year". Willie has recorded four albums to date and is currently working on his fifth solo project.
The Texas Songwriters' Showcase is the longest running showcase in Houston. These songwriters will take to the stage to entertain you with colossal musical talent and wide-ranging experience ... you will not be disappointed.

The Reverend Dr. Otis Futhermucker
Born in England in the age of dinosaurs The Reverend Otis Futhermucker began singing and playing guitar and harmonica at age 14. Through the early 1960s he opened for some of the big names on the British Blues circuit including the Graham Bond Organization with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, John Mayall in his Eric Clapton and Peter Green period, Alexis Korner, and also Little Walter, Lightnin' Slim, and Champion Jack Dupree during their European tours. First single released in 1964 "Buzz with the Fuzz" with King Cobra and the Rattlesnakes was the only record ever banned by Radio Caroline, the first of the British offshore pirate radio stations.
A six-year stint in Australia found him playing in various jazz bands in both the New Orleans and "Lounge-Lizard" styles until lack of money, greed and lust drove him to move to the USA in 1981.
Otis has musical influences going back to Mose Allison, J.B. Lenoir, Ray Charles, Lightning Hopkins, Brownie McGee and Sonny Terry, Duster Bennett, and the Bonzo Dog Doodah Band. Recently he has been getting more stage time around Houston. His playing and singing styles have been respectively described as "primitive" and "Nina Simone on helium after a ground-glass sandwich". His repertoire centers on old jazz of the 1920s and '30s and the blues classics after the Robert Johnson period. The Reverend has one CD recorded at Rabid Ape Studios in Houston, and plans a second release in 2006.
Joining Otis on stage tonight are Willie B on guitar, Leash on saxaphone and Jeff Hoofard on percussion.

The Hudsons

The Hudsons are an original three piece band from Austin,
Texas. Their genuine love of performing brought them together in 2002 in what started out as a talented and quirky songwriting duo. Guitarists Hudson Mueller and Brian Hudson made it a trio when they welcomed Jason Vopni on upright bass.
By some reports, these three are among the most original songwriters working in Austin right now. When asked what type of music they play, the Hudsons often respond in vaguaries. Indeed, their unique combination of folk, swing, blues, rap, and other is hard to pin down even for the band members themselves. The Hudsons shine in their intimate lyrics, thoughtful arrangements and charming stage presence. Their excellent songs and warm vocal harmonies make the Hudsons a must hear.
