perform in celebration of Elvis's birthday,
Jan. 8. It's all Elvis, all night! We know he
would be here if he could. And who knows
maybe he WILL! So curl your lips, practice your
'Thank you ... thank you very much', and get

Texas Songwriter Showcase
Some of the best singer
songwriters from around the state of Texas grace
the JPHH stage on the second Friday of each month.
The featured artists for this evening's showcase
are Annie
Benjamin and Mitch
Jacobs.
Annie Benjamin:
Annie is a veteran of the live music scene in
Texas with over two decades of performances to
her credit. She is known for her high energy flute
licks, her multi-register vocal ability, and a
very unique picking style on her guitar. Her lyrics
can be irreverant and silly one minute, poignantly
homespun the next.
Mitch Jacobs: Wielding
vintage guitar tones and a powerful voice, long
time frontman for Houston's Romeo Dogs, Mitch
Jacobs, has solid stage presence and a snappy
rapport with his audience. With influences ranging
from Cash, Elvis and Orbison to Hendrix, Steely
Dan and ZZ Top, Mitch stirs it all together in
a pleasing Texas recipe and serves it up hot,
tasty and soulful.
Willie B: Willie
describes himself as a bluesy guitar player, but
he is so much more. He is a gifted and diverse
guitar player who writes and performs in many
musical genres. Willie writes and sings songs
around the people in his life. He has been a past
recipient of HFBSA's "Song of the Year"
and "Songwriter of the Year". Willie
has recorded four albums to date and is currently
working on his fifth solo project.
The Texas Songwriters' Showcase
is the longest running showcase in Houston. These
songwriters will take to the stage to entertain
you with colossal musical talent and wide-ranging
experience ... you will not be disappointed.

10, 2009 - Saturday
Bill
Ward
& Derek
Aramburu
If music was a meal, Bill Ward
would be a banquet. With a personal background
as diverse as the number of instruments he plays,
Bill is a marathon man of music.
Although Bill draws inspiration from many styles
of music, he is a folk singer/songwriter in
the truest sense of the term. His songs illustrate
the plight of common folk from every walk of
life, whether it's the unending struggles of
the American Indian or the unfortunate reality
of the drug pusher on your local street corner,
his music conveys a message. Like a painter
with a brush and canvas, he portrays vivid,
haunting pictures of our lives - past, present
and future. As you close your eyes and listen,
you can feel the Texas Hill Country wind on
your face and recall fond childhood dreams of
growing up to be a cowboy. Whether it's a slow
waltz or a driving rock song, Bill captures
the hearts and minds of his listeners time and
time again with his dynamic stage presence,
gripping prose and unforgettable melodies.
Chosen from eight hundred international entrants, Houston singer/songwriter
Derek Aramburu has twice taken to the
stage as a finalist in the Kerrville New Folk
Songwriting Competition, .
Dereks style has evolved to a mood and
message driven range of acoustic rock with a
splash of country, pop and a hint of Christian.
While the path has been a bit round about, looking
back he wouldnt change a thing. "It
has been a great ride, and by some miracle here
I am. I long to create music that makes others
feel the same joy and peace I feel when I hear
a song I love. The music is out there; all around
us, everywhere, everyday
all we have
to do is reach out and grab it."

Thursday LIVE!
Welcome to Thirsty Thursday LIVE! - an incredible
night of acoustic music - always a crowd pleaser.
Come share a night of music - bring your friends
- enjoy a fun start to your weekend with a tasty
brew and a favorite JPHH performance.
Tonight's musical performers are Steve
Price and Mike
Darnell.
Steve is a Houston-based singer songwriter whose
songs build on a mix of influences from artists
like Cash, Kristofferson, Dylan, Gram Parsons,
as well as many other folk, rock, country and
blues masters. His lyrics will touch your heart,
entertain, and tell you something you didnt
know or hadnt thought about. They reflect
long experience of viewing life and love from
up, down, sideways, and through a fish-eye lens.
Weaned on the folk rock of the 60s
as part of the Woodstock generation, immersed
in the Texas music scene of the '70's, focused
throughout the '80's on an 'other than music'
career and raising a family, Mike's involvement
resurfaced in the late 90s as he
was drawn to the blues ... lectric blues,
country blues, delta blues. Mike is also known
about town as one third of the Big Lizard Boys.

Jon
Hogan
& Band
Think Woody Guthrie meets Townes Van Zandt and
the Carter Family to pick guitar with Kurt Cobain.
Singer/songwriter Jon Hogan blends a 1930s Progressive
sensibility with the soulful backbone of old-time
Appalachia and the gut-wrenching howl of the
itinerant, freethinking cosmic refugee. Hogan's
writing careens through unexpected topics and
spot-on social commentary, backed by a swinging'
upright bass and fingerpickin' guitars. Mix
in a little bluegrass, a little Eastern Europe
and scorching vocals, and you get an acoustic-rock
delivery that's sometimes understated, often
downright intense. Listeners who care about
hand-made, visionary folk art will get him completely.
Band personnel this evening is composed of Jon
Hogan on guitar and vocals, Maria Moss on guitar,
Matt Harlan provides lead guitar, Ned Mefford
on bass and David O'Dea plays banjo and sings
harmony.

Ken
Gaines &
Wayne Wilkerson
On stage tonight ... two very talented, popular
entertainers who have been around the block a
few times. They are each well known in the Texas
music scene as powerful singers and creative,
prolific songwriters of the magic we call music!
Ken Gaines has "a beautifully clear
voice and articulate guitar accompaniment."
His lyrics are both powerful and poetic and highlight
his skills as a story teller and observer of life.
Ken's latest CD, Catfish Moon, recorded
at Songdog Records and co-produced by Bill Ward,
has been selling like hotcakes. He was the recipient
in 2005 for the Texas Music Awards - Singer/Songwriter
of the Year and the My Texan Award. He's a proud
member of MyTexasMusic.com.
Wayne Wilkerson is a guitar wizard for
sure ... artful mastery of the strings. His incredible
skills on the guitar makes him a truly amazing
lead player. Along with tasteful guitar licks,
you can hear Wayne's smooth harmonies.
You will not want these guys to stop playing at
the end of the night. This show is highly recommended!

Blind
Justice
This recently formed Houston-area guitar duo,
is tonight's musical entertainment. Wally
Brannon and Joel Marlowe originally
came together in 1983 and over the past 25 years
have shared many a stage as band members or
duo partners. The name Blind Justice was taken
from the name of a song Wally wrote when he
was in prison ... well, not really, but you'll
have to come hear them to get the true story
behind the song.
