FILMING FOR A VIDEO TONIGHT!!!
From Bar Harbor, Maine to Santa Fe, New Mexico; from Los Angeles, California to Nashville, Tennessee, one can mention among Texas songwriters, the name “Shake Russell” and be virtually assured of interest, pleasure and joyful recognition. If you’re a true Texan, then Shake Russell’s music has touched your life in some way. If you’re not, it happened without your knowing it. Seventeen million copies of this Texan’s songs have been bought while being recorded by the likes of Clint Black, Ricky Skaggs, Waylon Jennings, and others.
We are always thrilled when Shake chooses to play our humble establishment. This evening's performance will also feature Doug Floyd on mandolin and Mike Roberts will contribute bass. Please join us for what is always a great "shakin" show.

second Friday of each month.
The
featured artists for this evening's showcase are Ken Gaines and Bill Ward.
Ken Gaines: Ken has "a beautifully clear voice and articulate guitar accompaniment." His lyrics are both powerful and poetic and highlight his skills as a story teller and observer of life. Ken's latest CD, Catfish Moon, recorded at Songdog Records and co-produced by Bill Ward, has been selling like hotcakes. Bill Ward: With a personal background is as diverse as the number of instruments he plays; Bill is a marathon man of music. He has a blues-inflected baritone voice, crystal clear enunciation and incredible vocal command. Bill captures the hearts and minds of his listeners time and time again with his dynamic stage presence, gripping prose and unforgettable melodies present in every song. He is incredible!

Butch
Morgan
with guests Lisa Markley & Bruce Balmer
Never
let it be said the Claude "Butch" Morgan
isn't passionate about life. His songs are often
spiritual in nature, but they're full of fun and
carry simple but powerful messages.
Butch
Morgan has an ability to take life's simplicity
and put a striking message inside in the form
of a song, a great example being his "God
Drives A Pick-up Truck". Morgan's "Blubberball"
attests to all that can go wrong when you don't
take care of yourself, and is a song performed
entirely with one chord. As Butch says, "It
starts off in G, then goes to G for the solos,
then we wrap it up in G."
Don't miss this show ... a wonderful character with a humorous rapport onstage. You'll laugh for sure!
Lisa Markley’s music is an exuberant blend of jazz, folk and blues - her diverse style defies labels; she is a multi-instrumentalist.
In the year 2000 Lisa received “Honorable Mention” in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest for two of her songs (in both the jazz and in the folk categories). She went on that same year to win the B.W. Stevenson Songwriting Contest. Lisa was a semifinalist in the Wildflower! Festival Performing Songwriter Contest in 2003, and was one of 10 “regional” singer/songwriters chosen by the Kerrville Folk Festival in 2001 and in 2004.
A former member of the band
Akoustik Nerve, Lisa now performs locally with
her jazz trio and as a solo artist. She also
tours internationally with the eclectic folk
trio The Malvinas. Her solo projects include
Goddess of Groove, and The Sky
Is Blue and Sometimes Cries.

Dana
Cooper

Americana legend Dana Cooper has wowed crowds
throughout the U.S. and Europe recently, with
tunes from his newest album, Made of Mud on King Easy Records. William Michael Smith of The Houston Press wrote, The album
rumbles with plenty of roots-rock swagger
As a songwriter, Cooper shows he's paid attention
during his 30 years of trial-and-error authorship.
On Made of Mud, he repeatedly demonstrates
personal warmth, intellectual vigor and a Zen
grasp of imagery, metaphor, story line and poetics".
Dana's highly original lyrics, skillful guitar
work, evocative vocals and stage humor have earned
him a devoted following with fans and critics
alike. Cooper's songs have been recorded by artists
such as Maura O'Connell, Jonell Mosser, Susan
Werner, Jen Cohen, Christine Albert, Trout Fishing
in America, Pierce Pettis, Johnsmith and Shake
Russell.

The
Reverend Dr. Otis Futhermucker 61st Birthday Party
Born in England in the age of dinosaurs The
Reverend Otis Futhermucker began singing and
playing guitar and harmonica at age 14. Through
the early 1960s he opened for some of the big
names on the British Blues circuit including
the Graham Bond Organization with Jack Bruce
and Ginger Baker, John Mayall in his Eric Clapton
and Peter Green period, Alexis Korner, and also
Little Walter, Lightnin' Slim, and Champion
Jack Dupree during their European tours. First
single released in 1964 "Buzz with the
Fuzz" with King Cobra and the Rattlesnakes
was the only record ever banned by Radio Caroline,
the first of the British offshore pirate radio
stations.
A
six-year stint in Australia found him playing
in various jazz bands in both the New Orleans
and "Lounge-Lizard" styles until lack
of money, greed and lust drove him to move to
the USA in 1981.
Otis
has musical influences going back to Mose Allison,
J.B. Lenoir, Ray Charles, Lightning Hopkins, Brownie
McGee and Sonny Terry, Duster Bennett, and the
Bonzo Dog Doodah Band. Recently he has been getting
more stage time around Houston. His playing and
singing styles have been respectively described
as "primitive" and "Nina Simone
on helium after a ground-glass sandwich".
His repertoire centers on old jazz of the 1920s
and '30s and the blues classics after the Robert
Johnson period. The Reverend has one CD recorded
at Rabid Ape Studios in Houston, and has plans for a second one.
Join
Otis as he celebrates number 61 with many musical friends and fans ... and snacks.
