Cask-Conditioned
Enlightenment
A cask-conditioned beer, often referred to as 'real ale'
is brewed from only traditional ingredients and allowed
to mature naturally. The unfiltered, unpasteurised beer
still contains live yeast, which continues conditioning
the beer in the cask. This process creates a gentle, natural
CO2 carbonation and allows malt and hop flavors to develop,
resulting in a richer tasting beer with more character
than standard keg beer. 'Real ale' is always served without
any extraneous gas. This is the traditional way of brewing
and serving beer; only a few decades ago did filtered,
pasteurized, chilled beer served by gas become normal. |

The Return of Zeus ... Mark
Zeus & Kristen Jensen
Mark Zeus is coming back strong after his double hip surgery with special guest Kristen Jensen!
Mark
Zeus, the omnipresent great god of folk/rock,
is a veteran songwriter, live performer and
recording artist whose music features an eclectic
mix of folk, country, rock and blues often intertwined
with various ethnic and indigenous rhythms.
Mark's lyrics tend to reflect experiences within
the human condition, while often addressing
social and political issues and concerns with
humor as well as urgency.
Having
been born and raised on the Westside of Chicago,
where he was a leader in the music and songwriting
community, Mark relocated to Houston in January
of 2000 where he has also become a major contributor
to the burgeoning local scene. For the past seven
years, Mark has been splitting time between the
two cities.
His newest
CD, One Magic Moment, represents
a unique combination of styles, themes, and performances.
Just
a remarkable musician and
songs to match.
Jimmy Pizzitola will be the opening act.

Texas Songwriter Showcase
Some of the best singer songwriters from around
the state of Texas grace the JPHH stage on the
second Friday of each month.
The
featured artists for this evening's showcase are Drinkwater Floyd and The Hanshaws.
Drinkwater Floyd: Reminiscent of an earlier era, Drinkwater's voice is big and bold and sweet and rough. There is an honesty to his music that comes across just as clearly as his big Texas smile and modest disposition. A big fan of Texas Country and Southern Rock, Drinkwater draws on many of his influences and combines bits and pieces of each in his performance and songwriting.
Drinkwater's debut album will be finished early in 2008. It is aptly titled Drinkwater Floyd ~ Half Lies & Partial Truths.
The Hanshaws: It's been a "few" years since David & Kelly Hanshaw hit the road and fronted bands in various dancehalls and nightclubs throughout the southwest. They
are now an acoustic duo performing as The Hanshaws.
Their years of performing together have perfected
an amazingly tuneful unison; David and Kelly's
harmonies are absolutely incredible! The Hanshaws' self-titled studio CD project is finally here.
Willie
B: Willie describes himself as a bluesy guitar
player, but he is so much more. He is a gifted
and diverse guitar player who writes and performs
in many musical genres. Willie writes and sings
songs around the people in his life. He has been
a past recipient of HFBSA's "Song
of the Year" and "Songwriter of the
Year". Willie has recorded four albums to
date and is currently working on his fifth solo
project.
The Texas
Songwriters' Showcase
is
the
longest running
showcase in Houston. These songwriters will take
to the stage to entertain you with colossal musical
talent
and
wide-ranging
experience ... you
will not be disappointed.

Smythe & Taylor
TC
Smythe and Gary Taylor, performing
together as a duo since 2000, play a wide variety
of traditional and contemporary acoustic music.
They're noted for their homegrown harmonies and
humorous lyrics. With five albums between them,
Smythe & Taylor demonstrate their musical
and songwriting abilities that range from lighthearted
to poignant. Both are members of HAAM and Houston
Songwriters Association, of which Gary is the
current president.
Attention Party People!
Birthdays & Mysteries - OH BOY!
We will be celebrating a trio of very special birthdays tonight. We also have a 'mystery guitar player' (for a total of 3 pickers) who will join TC and Gary on stage - that makes a duo of trios.
This is weird - The birthday boys and girl were all born on the same day in the same year!
Even weirder - two of 'em are married!
And weirder still - two of 'em are twins (hint: they’re not the married ones).
Can't guess who the trio might be? Let me help you, Rob abd Judy Mood and Judy's twin brother, John, from Washington.
Rob and Judy are big music fans and fun people to be around.
So come on out and join the party, and help the tremendous trio celebrate!

Ken
Gaines &
Wayne Wilkerson
On stage tonight ... two very talented, popular
entertainers who have been around the block a
few times. They are each well known in the Texas
music scene as powerful singers and creative,
prolific songwriters of the magic we call music!
Ken
Gaines has "a beautifully clear voice
and articulate guitar accompaniment." His
lyrics are both powerful and poetic and highlight
his skills as a story teller and observer of life.
Ken's latest CD, Catfish Moon, recorded
at Songdog Records and co-produced by Bill Ward,
has been selling like hotcakes. He was the recipient
in 2005 for the Texas Music Awards - Singer/Songwriter
of the Year and the My Texan Award. He's a proud
member of MyTexasMusic.com.
Wayne
Wilkerson is a guitar wizard for sure ...
artful mastery of the strings. His incredible
skills on the guitar makes him a truly amazing
lead player. Along with tasteful guitar licks,
you can hear Wayne's smooth harmonies.
You
will not want these guys to stop playing at the
end of the night. This show is highly recommended!

Happenstance
Happenstance is a trio of acoustic singer-songwriters who play original music, sing great harmony, and challenge their audience to have as much fun as they do. With a collective experience of over 70 years of professional entertainment, they draw from an extensive list of original material as well as the occasional unexpected cover song. Happenstance always gets the audience involved in the show and makes sure everyone leaves with a smile on their face and a song in their heart.

'Electrifying
Acousticana' is the term that they use when people
say "What kind of music do you play?"
Not always knowing what to tell them, 'electrifying
acousticana' is as close as they've been able
to come. Drawing upon acoustic music and Americana
primarily, they play a melting pot of musical
genres, styles, and influences.
DOUG
COPPOCK
Doug Coppock has lived and performed in the Central
Arkansas area since 1989, after moving from Houston.
As a solo acoustic performer Doug has played at
many of the Arkansas folk venues, private parties
and house concerts. He was selected as a New Folk
Finalist (Kerrville Folk Festivals Songwriting
Competition) in 1985, 1987, and 1988, sharing
the stage with the likes of Buddy Mondlock, Pierce
Pettis, and others. He has attended song-writing
school and has studied with Rick Beresford, Allen
Shamblin, Gail Davies and others. Doug has been
a good friend of ours since he first discovered
Kerrville in the mid-eighties.
DAN
CLANTON
Dan has performed at folk festivals and VFW clubs,
bars and restaurants, in ballrooms and on street
corners from Boston to Seattle, and points in
between. He has studied songwriting with the likes
of folk legends Peter Yarrow, Steve Gillette,
and Tom Paxton, and won awards for his own songwriting.
He has shared stages with such well-known artists
as Ray Wiley Hubbard, Allen Damron, Crow Johnson,
and many others.
Dan has hosted several weekly Singer-Songwriter
Showcases and Open Mics in the Central Arkansas
area.
BROOKS
WALTHALL
While living in Kentucky, Brooks formed his first
band, a bluegrass group called The Dangling Participles.
Playing in virtually every club in the southern
Kentucky area, the Participles mixed traditional
bluegrass instrumentation and attitude with contemporary
and classic rock to form an early version of jam-grass.
He went on to play as a solo acoustic performer,
then in an acoustic duo and later in a touring
band that opened a national tour for Pauley Shore.
Brooks started his own recording studio and record
label, Lo-Fi Recording, recording most of the
popular acoustic music performers in Central Arkansas.
JP
Hops House is excited to welcome the trio back to Texas.

The Hudsons are quite possibly the hardest-working folk group in Austin. Brian Hudson and Hudson Mueller have been playing together in some fashion for over six years now. Over the years the duo have accomplished great things. The Hudsons have won multiple awards, including Best Folk Band from the Austin Music Awards. They've toured all over the U.S. and Canada, producing three albums, three bumper stickers, two t-shirts and a koozie. They've even created a whole new business model for small-time bands--playing out so often that your career imitates a regular job. And most impressively of all, they've garnered a diverse and loyal following in Central Texas.
