Bill
Ward
If music was a meal, Bill Ward would
be a banquet. With a personal background as
diverse as the number of instruments he plays,
Bill is a marathon man of music.
A native of the baked concrete hills of Miami,
Bill has been a private detective and an analyst
for the oil industry, among other vocations.
However, throughout all of his endeavors, music
has been the driving force in his life.
Starting with the piano, guitar and ukulele
at the age of five, Bill expanded his base to
over 30 instruments by the time he was in college.
While his music developed, so did his fascination
for language. He gained recognition in 1975,
at the prestigious American Song Festival, with
an Honorable Mention. In 1978, his song "Something
for the Children" was selected as the theme
for the March of Dimes.
Now, a popular entertainer and prolific songwriter,
Bill has penned over 300 compositions, ranging
from folk to jazz, country to classical, and
rock to reggae. Bill's 1991 album, William
is Our Name is still enjoying airplay in
the U.S., Russia, Ireland, The Netherlands,
Canada, and on Willie Nelson & Friends
OUTLAW FOR PEACE show airing worldwide on
RADIO FOR PEACE INTERNATIONAL. His songs have
been recorded by a host of artists as well as
being picked up by Warner-Chappel Music and
Phil Collins' Hit and Run Music.
 |
Although Bill draws inspiration from many styles
of music, he is a folk singer/songwriter in
the truest sense of the term. His songs illustrate
the plight of common folk from every walk of
life, whether it's the unending struggles of
the American Indian or the unfortunate reality
of the drug pusher on your local street corner,
his music conveys a message. Like a painter
with a brush and canvas, he portrays vivid,
haunting pictures of our lives - past, present
and future. As you close your eyes and listen,
you can feel the Texas Hill Country wind on
your face and recall fond childhood dreams of
growing up to be a cowboy. Whether it's a slow
waltz or a driving rock song, Bill captures
the hearts and minds of his listeners time and
time again with his dynamic stage presence,
gripping prose and unforgettable melodies.
 |
Bill's songs are intelligent, down to earth
portraits that capture the very soul of his
audience. Each picture he paints is an insight
into life, born from his diverse background
and keen eye for the triumphs and tragedies
that are so much a part of our everyday lives.
Yes, if music was a meal, Bill Ward would
be a banquet. Welcome to the feast!
Thanks to Songdog
Records for the wonderful words
about Bill.

Texas Songwriter Showcase
IKE
DO OVER
September 12 Showcase rescheduled
due to Hurricane Ike
Some
of the best singer songwriters from around the
state of Texas grace the JPHH stage on the second
Friday of each month. The featured artists for
this evening's showcase are Carolyn
Wallace and
David
Fahl.
Please check again soon for details.
Carolyn Wallace:
An accomplished songwriter, singer and musician
With lyrics that touch the heart, and rhythms
that swirl through your head long after youve
heard the songs. You will not want to miss the
opportunity to experience Carolyns music.
Her varied style has been described as "Bonnie
Raitt meeting Sheryl Crow at Dan Fogelbergs
house to jam". Her newly released CD, More
Than Friends, is a superb compilation
that showcases her many talents.
David Fahl: David caught the
music-making bug in 1984 after ignoring music
for years while he tried to establish a career
in data processing. He has played in rock, blues,
and country bands, and done lots of solo folk
shows. Currently you can catch David as he performs
solo or with Fahl & Folk. Thus far David has
two CDs, Life is Good
and Shoulda Known Better,
to his credit. The title song, "Shoulda Known
Better", was covered by Opie Hendrix and the Texas
Tall Boys on their CD titled San Jacinto.
Willie
B: Willie describes
himself as a bluesy guitar player, but he is so
much more. He is a gifted and diverse guitar player
who writes and performs in many musical genres.
Willie writes and sings songs around the people
in his life. He has been a past recipient of HFBSA's
"Song of the Year" and "Songwriter
of the Year". Willie has recorded four albums
to date and is currently working on his fifth
solo project.
The
Texas Songwriters' Showcase is the longest running
showcase in Houston. These songwriters will take
to the stage to entertain you with colossal musical
talent and wide-ranging experience ... you will
not be disappointed.

Juneau
This
original acoustic trio has been singing and playing
music together since they were children. Siblings
Anthony, Patrick and Laurie Juneau were raised
with their large family in a home filled with
music. Growing up in a small rural community north
of Houston on the edge of the Piney Woods of Texas,
these three singer/songwriters developed a unique
style that
|
|
sends
the audience on an emotional roller coaster --
between laughterand tears -- all in three-part
harmony.
Patrick,
Anthony and Laurie pursued their own musical interests
through the 70s, 80s and 90s each playing
different musical genres with various bands and
acts. Over the years, all three have become serious
songwriters and their catalog of songs continues
to grow.
In
1995, they combined their efforts, formed Juneau,
and started playing together in the Austin and
Houston areas. While the siblings are the core
of Juneau, a complement of other musicians is
added, depending on the venue.
In
June of 2004, Juneau released their first full-length
CD titled simply enough, Juneau,
which was produced and recorded by Jack Saunders
at White Cat Studio in Houston, Texas. The songs
and sound of Juneau are as diverse as the music
that influenced them.
you just can't beat that sibling harmony

Across
the Water
True to their name, Across
The Water features an all-acoustic repertoire
from both sides of the Atlantic - just like the
players. Steve Goodchild hails from the north
of England, and Bob Lahmeyer and Paul Cooper are
natives, respectively, of Missouri and Texas.
Despite diverse geographic roots, they share some
key things in common.
|
|
Across
the Water
|
"I think
we all hooked into folk music early, and started
playing and singing when we were teenagers,"
says Paul, who remembers performing "Where
Have All the Flowers Gone" for his high school
assembly in the 1960s; Steve's father had to drive
him to gigs when he started performing in folk
clubs at fifteen, and Bob recalls his college
band "practicing Crosby, Stills, Nash and
Young numbers a capella for hours on road
trips until we had it nailed!"
When ATW comes to play, they show up with a lot
of instruments. All three play guitar. Bob can
pick a hard-as-nails bluegrass banjo on one number,
and then turn a deft hand to the bass on the next
one. Paul plays backup and solo mandolin, and
has recently been seen behind more exotic things
like bouzoukis and octave mandolins, holding Steve
totally accountable for his new fascination for
things with more than six strings! Depending on
the performance, Steve might come out toting a
mandolin, mandola, a cittern or even the mandocello
he calls "Bloodaxe". Stir three capable
voices into the instrumental mix and you have
all the ingredients for a veritable smorgasbord
of new and traditional music from their respective
countries and regions. They have also been known
to put aside the wood & wire and, without
the benefit of that safety-net, deliver the occasional
unaccompanied number in distinctive tight, three-part
harmony.

performing it and sharing it with their audiences.

The
Hudsons are quite possibly the hardest-working
folk group in Austin. Brian Hudson and Hudson
Mueller have been playing together in some fashion
for over six years now. Over the years the duo
have accomplished great things. The Hudsons have
won multiple awards, including Best Folk Band
from the Austin Music Awards. They've toured all
over the U.S. and Canada, producing three albums,
three bumper stickers, two t-shirts and a koozie.
They've even created a whole new business model
for small-time bands--playing out so often that
your career imitates a regular job. And most impressively
of all, they've garnered a diverse and loyal following
in Central Texas.

The
Moe Hansum Band

This 4-member band, hailing
from Houston, Texas, performs Americana music
with a strong emphasis on traditional acoustic
blues. Their Texas-bred music
|
|
|
blends
folk blues
with a splash of the soul and rhythm of the Mississippi
Delta blues. In concert the band presents a variety of
their original tunes, complemented by little-known
covers from artists such as Bukka White, Robert Johnson
and Jimmy Reed. The
Moe Hansum Band has been together in
many incarnations since the early 1990's.
The
instrumentation currently consists of two acoustic
and resonator guitarists, Mike Durbin and Chuck
Schwarz, upright acoustic bassist Sandy Buller and
drummer Stephan B. Miller. They have performed at
the Kerrville Folk Festival and many other locations
across Texas. This band of exceptionally
talented musicians is
always a JP Hops House favorite. Moe's music can
be healing and therapeutic for those longing for
an authentic voice in traditional and modern folk
blues.
