Butch
Morgan and Alex Whitmore
Never
let it be said the Claude "Butch" Morgan
isn't passionate about life. His songs are often
spiritual in nature, but they're full of fun and
carry simple but powerful messages.
Butch
Morgan has an ability to take life's simplicity
and put a striking message inside in the form
of a song, a great example being his "God
Drives A Pick-up Truck". Morgan's "Blubberball"
attests to all that can go wrong when you don't
take care of yourself, and is a song performed
entirely with one chord. As Butch says, "It
starts off in G, then goes to G for the solos,
then we wrap it up in G."
Joining
Butch onstage tonight is the witty, funny and unpretentious, one of a kind Alex Whitmore, a serious songwriter with a sense of humor ... and a hell of a fingerpicker.
Alex's song subjects range from chiggers to lonely nights in the rain.
"People are always trying to get me to categorize my music. All I can say is people from the Northeast consider it country. People from Texas consider it folk. People from Nashville won't even take the shrink wrap off the cd. I describe it as Home cooked Texas style with humor for dessert." ~ Alex
"Alex Whitmore has a lyrical and instrumental style that I’ve admired for many years. When it comes to inventive fingerpicking and alternate tuning, he's the one I watch to keep me musically motivated." ~ Terri Hendrix
Don't miss this show ... two wonderful characters with a humorous rapport onstage. You'll laugh for sure!

Texas Song Tour Hosted by Brian Kalinec
Brian Kalinec is a talented singer, songwriter
and guitarist performing original music and cover
tunes. His lead guitar licks will leave you spellbound. Brian was selected as an 'Artist of Note' by SingOut Magazine in the winter 2007 issue. He won first place in the 1st Annual Texas Songwriter’s Serenade songwriting contest at Fiddler’s Frolics in Hallettsville, TX. His music has also been featured on ABC's World News Now. Brian released his debut CD, Last Man Standing, in early 2007.
 |
Danny Everitt has written, performed, recorded and published hundreds of songs. Whether he’s performing his own material, or you’re hearing it recorded and performed by other artists, you can tell immediately that Danny does more than pen great songs. His are warm, bright, spirited, upbeat, soulful, rhythmic, funny and moving songs. They carry just enough familiarity so as not to alienate, yet carry more than enough originality to gently lift the listener off of familiar turf and into the realm of new discovery.
Danny was a finalist in the American Song Festival and a semi finalist in the Dallas Songwriters Association song contest in 2006. The Academy of Texas Music nominated Danny as the 2007 Singer/Songwriter of the Year.
Jim Patton and Sherry Brokus, aka Edge City, combine the Texas singer/songwriter tradition with East Coast rock and roll, setting Edge City apart.
| |
"… Jim Patton's voice is unique and as honest as they get. There isn't a trace of artifice - when he sings I believe every word he says. His songs are tender without being sentimental, strong without overpowering and thoughtful without being too cerebral. Sherry Brokus rides along with him with a natural sweetness that makes their partnership beautifully balanced and hard to resist." ~ Christine Albert |
Carolyn Wallace is an accomplished songwriter, singer and musician. With lyrics that touch the heart, and rhythms that swirl through your head long after you’ve heard the songs, you will not want to miss the opportunity to experience Carolyn’s music. Her varied style has been described as "Bonnie Raitt meeting Sheryl Crow at Dan Fogelberg’s house to jam". Her newly released debut CD, More Than Friends, is a superb compilation that showcases her many talents.

Texas Songwriter Showcase
Some of the best singer songwriters from around
the state of Texas grace the JPHH stage on the
second Friday of each month.
The
featured artists for this evening's showcase are Petesimple and John Barton.
Pete Simple: Pete brings his own unique brand of jazz rock fusion to Houston for the first time. Combining gorgeous rock melodies with jazz sensibilities, Pete Simple tethers his reputation to superb musicianship and electric live performances
John Barton: A wide array of influences served to shape John's knack for melody, hooks and lyrical depth. His debut CD showcases his laidback performing style, layered guitars and lush harmonies. A true solo project, John played and sang nearly all of the parts while acting as his own engineer and producer.
Willie
B: Willie describes himself as a bluesy guitar
player, but he is so much more. He is a gifted
and diverse guitar player who writes and performs
in many musical genres. Willie writes and sings
songs around the people in his life. He has been
a past recipient of HFBSA's "Song
of the Year" and "Songwriter of the
Year". Willie has recorded four albums to
date and is currently working on his fifth solo
project.
The Texas
Songwriters' Showcase
is
the
longest running
showcase in Houston. These songwriters will take
to the stage to entertain you with colossal musical
talent
and
wide-ranging
experience ... you
will not be disappointed.

Susan
Gibson is happiest on the move, putting upwards
of 60,000 miles a year on her van, and her latest
journey is OuterSpace. That's the
name of her latest CD which stretches her musical
boundaries and is the edgiest work she's ever
done. The new recording includes a live version
of her song "Wide Open Spaces" which
the Dixie Chicks propelled into one of the all-time
best-selling country songs.
Susan's
claim to fame is her songwriting. Her passion
whispers and roars. Her songs are natural pearls
- grains of truth at the core, wrapped in silken
melodies, and gritty enough on the surface to
guarantee authenticity.
Susan
grabbed honors as winner of the 1998 CMA "Single
of the Year" and a Grammy nomination for
writing "Wide Open Spaces," title
track of Dixie Chicks' multi-platinum Grammy Award
winning album.

| The Hudsons are quite possibly the hardest-working folk group in Austin. Brian Hudson and Hudson Mueller have been playing together in some fashion for over six years now. Over the years the duo have accomplished great things. The Hudsons have won multiple awards, including Best Folk Band from the Austin Music Awards. They've toured all over the U.S. and Canada, producing three albums, three bumper stickers, two t-shirts and a koozie. They've even created a whole new business model for small-time |

bands--playing out so often that your career imitates a regular job. And most impressively of all, they've garnered a diverse and loyal following in Central Texas.
The opening set tonight will be presented by John Amos from Red River, New Mexico.

Danny Everitt
Since the age of ten, starting with an audition on Ted Mack’s Original Amateur Hour, Danny Everitt has never stopped growing as a performer and professional, seasoning and perfecting his craft with every experience along the way.
He has written, performed, recorded and published hundreds of songs. He’s been described as a “moving target.” It’s why some of his greatest admirers—and closest friends—are among the more popular singers and songwriters of our time.
