Dana
Cooper &
Susan
Gibson

Americana legend Dana Cooper has wowed crowds
throughout the U.S. and Europe recently, with
tunes from his newest album, Made of Mud
on King Easy Records. William Michael Smith of
The Houston Press wrote, The album
rumbles with plenty of roots-rock swagger
As a songwriter, Cooper shows he's paid attention
during his 30 years of trial-and-error authorship.
On Made of Mud, he repeatedly demonstrates
personal warmth, intellectual vigor and a Zen
grasp of imagery, metaphor, story line and poetics".
Dana's highly original lyrics, skillful guitar
work, evocative vocals and stage humor have earned
him a devoted following with fans and critics
alike. Cooper's songs have been recorded by artists
such as Maura O'Connell, Jonell Mosser, Susan
Werner, Jen Cohen, Christine Albert, Trout Fishing
in America, Pierce Pettis, Johnsmith and Shake
Russell.
 |
We are always extremely
pleased to be able to present Dana and his music.
It's always a special evening ... don't miss it.
Susan
Gibson is always happiest on the move.
Even though she's settled into a home in the Texas
Hill Country, she still puts upwards of 60,000
miles a year on her customized freightliner van.
Her 2005 release, Outer Space,
included a live version of her song "Wide
Open Spaces" which the Dixie Chicks propelled
into one of the all-time best-selling country
songs.
Susan's claim to fame is
her songwriting. Her passion whispers and roars.
Her songs are natural pearls - grains of truth
at the core, wrapped in silken melodies, and gritty
enough on the surface to guarantee authenticity.
Susan grabbed honors as
winner of the 1998 CMA "Single of the Year"
and a Grammy nomination for writing "Wide
Open Spaces," title track of Dixie Chicks'
multi-platinum Grammy Award winning album.
Joining Susan onstage this
evening will be the fantastic fiddle player Marian
Brackney.

Matt
Harlan &
Brad Boyer
Matt Harlan is a
songwriter's songwriter, composing scenic landscapes
and pointed statements disguised as songs ...
often non-linear, but always melodic. Harlan's
works confront social norms, celebrate lives overlooked,
or just wax poetic about coffee and bus-stops.
Whatever the inspiration, the music is always
heartfelt and genuine. Matt took First Place in
the 2006 American Songwriter Lyric Contest for
his song "Waiting For Godot."

Butch
Morgan &
Betty
Soo
Able to hold any audience with his true to life
songs, stories, and his sense of humor, Butch
Morgan is a top notch entertainer who gives
his best every gig.
His songs have been covered
by the likes of The Georgia Satelites, the Dusters,
the Flying A's, Mitch Web & the Swindles and
others.
He has won several notable
songwriting awards including The Wildflower Music
Festrival Song Writing Contest, finalist in the
Mountain Stage Newsong Competition 08', finalist
at the Kerrville Folk Festival Newfolk Contest
(05' & 08'), and honorable mention in the
recent Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest.
Butch has been a regular
on the San Antonio music scene since the 70s,
breaking ground by merging country, rock, folk
and all the other influences in his life into
original songs filled with insightful lyrics and
catchy melodies. Other artists cover his material
and his songs have virtually become anthems.
He has also refined the
craft of 'putting on the show', a consumate ringmaster
making sure a good time is had by all. Crowds
of loyal fans all over Texas sing along with his
originals and marvel at the energy and the innovative
new twists he brings to the standards.
The first studio CDs from
Betty Soo were well received by critics,
earning praise locally and nationally, even securing
her performance opportunities overseas. She has
earned multiple songwriting awards including Kerrville
New Folk, Wildflower Festival, and Big Top Chautauqua
Songwriter of the Year, and has proven herself
a strong emerging live performer.
As for genre, shes
still nestled in the folk-rock world. She is bringing
something new to her listeners such as a little
gospel, some straight-ahead folk, a bit of twang,
and familiar oldies with a new twist. Be ready
for a surprise.
And, of course, theres
the whole issue of her name. How did a second-generation
Korean end up with such a classic southern name?
Is it a stage name? No, she answers,
laughing, I guess Im just lucky that
way. Its right there on my birth certificate.
Soo is my dads middle name, too. Yep, hes
a boy named Soo.

Blind
Justice
This recently formed Houston-area guitar duo,
is tonight's musical entertainment. Wally
Brannon and Joel Marlowe originally
came together in 1983 and over the past 25 years
have shared many a stage as band members or
duo partners. The name Blind Justice was taken
from the name of a song Wally wrote when he
was in prison ... well, not really, but you'll
have to come hear them to get the true story
behind the song.

The
Hudsons are quite possibly the hardest-working
folk group in Austin. Brian Hudson and Hudson
Mueller have been playing together in some fashion
for over six years now. Over the years the duo
have accomplished great things. The Hudsons have
won multiple awards, including Best Folk Band
from the Austin Music Awards. They've toured all
over the U.S. and Canada, producing three albums,
three bumper stickers, two t-shirts and a koozie.
They've even created a whole new business model
for small-time bands--playing out so often that
your career imitates a regular job. And most impressively
of all, they've garnered a diverse and loyal following
in Central Texas.
