Brian
Ashley Jones with Tisha
Simeral
Brian Ashley Jones is a versatile singer, guitarist
and songwriter who draws from a variety of traditional
music to create his own brand of Americana.
Jones is heavily influenced by the bluegrass,
country and Southern rock that he heard as a
child in the upstate area of South Carolina
and in the early days of his music career in
central Georgia.
Now
based in Nashville, Tennessee, BAJ maintains an
active performance schedule, averaging 200 live
shows a year in the USA and Europe. Jones focuses
on his own creative projects these days after
years of working as a sideman playing guitar,
bass and mandolin for other artists including
Eric Heatherly, Caroline Aiken, Donna
Hopkins, Michael Tolcher, Bomshel, David Gans,
Ralph Roddenbery, Deep Blue Sun, Paper Sun, and
Lisen Elwin.
His
first CD of original material, Come Out and
Play, was released in |
|
|
1997. 2002 saw the release
of his second CD, Courier and 2007 finds
BAJ about to release his third CD of original
material featuring Hammond B3 artist Ike Stubblefield,
drummer Steve Ebe and harmonica player Ian Walker.
Jones
new acoustic trio featuring dobro/pedal steel
artist Mark Van Allen and bassist Tisha Simeral
is in the studio recording songs for an additional
2007 release and finalizing plans for a summer
tour.
Tisha
Simeral, also living in Nashville, is a professional
bassist who plays electric bass and string bass
with a wide variety of artists. In addition to
Brian Ashley Jones, Tisha has worked with guitarist
Mel Deal, country artist Eric Heatherly, veteran
rocker Ron Keel, "edu-tainer" Joel Reese
and vocalist Christina Watson. She has performed
on the General Jackson Showboat and played with
the Nashville Chamber Orchestra String Quintet
and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra Pops.
Her arrangements and compositions have been performed
by Sarah Morrow, the Women in Music Columbus Orchestra
and String Sinfonia, the Land of Legend Philharmonic
and the Prevailing Winds Quintet.

Texas Songwriter Showcase
Some of the best singer songwriters from around
the state of Texas grace the JPHH stage on the
second Friday of each month.
The
featured artists for this evening's showcase are Edge City.
Edge City: Jim Patton and Sherry Brokus, aka, combine the Texas singer/songwriter tradition with East Coast rock and roll, setting Edge City apart.
The partners have sung togetherfor over twenty five years.
Their music sets up camp in that territory where mainstream
classic rock overlaps with roots music and singer-songwriters. Edge City
wants the words to be heard, but they also want the words to get pushed
along by the music.
| |
"… Jim Patton's voice is unique and as honest as they get. There isn't a trace of artifice - when he sings I believe every word he says. His songs are tender without being sentimental, strong without overpowering and thoughtful without being too cerebral. Sherry Brokus rides along with him with a natural sweetness that makes their partnership beautifully balanced and hard to resist." ~ Christine Albert |
Willie
B: Willie describes himself as a bluesy guitar
player, but he is so much more. He is a gifted
and diverse guitar player who writes and performs
in many musical genres. Willie writes and sings
songs around the people in his life. He has been
a past recipient of HFBSA's "Song
of the Year" and "Songwriter of the
Year". Willie has recorded four albums to
date and is currently working on his fifth solo
project.
The Texas
Songwriters' Showcase
is
the
longest running
showcase in Houston. These songwriters will take
to the stage to entertain you with colossal musical
talent
and
wide-ranging
experience ... you
will not be disappointed.

The Hudsons are quite possibly the hardest-working folk group in Austin. Brian Hudson and Hudson Mueller have been playing together in some fashion for over six years now. Over the years the duo have accomplished great things. The Hudsons have won multiple awards, including Best Folk Band from the Austin Music Awards. They've toured all over the U.S. and Canada, producing three albums, three bumper stickers, two t-shirts and a koozie. They've even created a whole new business model for small-time bands--playing out so often that your career imitates a regular job. And most impressively of all, they've garnered a diverse and loyal following in Central Texas.

Sugar
Bayou
Sugar
Bayou write and play eclectic acoustic music -
joyful and complex, with ethereal vocals and instruments
infused with folk, swingy bluesy jazz, Celtic,
bluegrass, Cajun & South American traditions,
plus a touch of Texas rockin country. Hard
to describe, amazing to listen to.
Bob
Oldreive: Bob has a musical pedigree the size
of the Big Bend, and glorious voice to match. |
|
He plays amazing and lush guitar, and writes exquisite
songs that are destined to live forever. In 1973,
Bob and Joe Lindley formed Houstons seminal
country rock band, Dogtooth Violet. Their high energy
shows garnered both critical acclaim and a loyal
following, and their record is a highly coveted
collectors item. They opened for greats such
as Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings,
and would regularly pack the Texas Opry House, Liberty
Hall, Miller Outdoor Theater, the Sweetheart
of Texas and Rockefellers (to name a few).
 |
April
Rapier: April sang demos in Nashville and elsewhere
for ten years, writing and performing in the US,
Mexico, Central America and Europe. She plays guitar,
mandolin, piano and spoons, and annoys her cats
and dog with incessant banjo and accordion practice.
She was a photographer and artist, her work residing
in major museum, private and corporate collections
here and abroad. She is completing her first novel,
and would be finished by now if she could figure
out what to call it.
 |
Paul
Kiteck: Born and raised in Kentucky bluegrass
country, Paul is an experienced fiddler, having
performed with groups from Colorado to North Carolina.
He was a member of Houston's Lonestar Bluegrass
Band for ten years, starting in 1988. He has several
recording sessions to his credit, including Flying
Fish Records, Lonestar Records, Don Sanders and
Leeway (and soon to begin work on Sugar Bayous
second CD). When he isn't playing music, Paul is
an acoustic engineer in Houston, traveling all over
the country for work. He also moonlights as a top-notch,
highly sought-after sound engineer for festivals
and events around Texas.
 |
Robert
Knetsch: Robert has performed and recorded with
numerous musical artists and ensembles, representing
a wide range of musical styles including jazz, classical,
country, folk, rock and world music. In addition
to bass/bass guitar he also plays drums/percussion,
guitar and clarinet. Robert works from time to time
as a CPA and lives in Houston with his dog Pearl.
Bill
Browder: Bill began playing professionally with
the Four Dudes, a Houstonarea Temptations
knock-off band in 1969. He joined Denim in the summer
of 1970, and they were signed by two major labels
in the mid to late 70s. After Denim disbanded
in 1980, he played with The Austin AllStars
and Duck Soup. Denim reformed in 1990, and is still
recording and performing today. Other acts that
Bill plays with are The Big Time, The Heroes, and
Sugar Bayou. At the age of 4, Bill took a nap in
Jayne Mansfields' bed.
October 2007 Sugar Bayou released their second CD Dance Hall Incident which follows the incredible success of
their first release, Nowhere But Gone.

Susan
Gibson is always happiest on the move. Even though she's settled into a home in the Texas Hill Country, she still puts upwards
of 60,000 miles a year on her customized freightliner van. Her 2005 release, Outer Space, included a live version
of her song "Wide Open Spaces" which
the Dixie Chicks propelled into one of the all-time
best-selling country songs.
Susan's
claim to fame is her songwriting. Her passion
whispers and roars. Her songs are natural pearls
- grains of truth at the core, wrapped in silken
melodies, and gritty enough on the surface to
guarantee authenticity.
Susan
grabbed honors as winner of the 1998 CMA "Single
of the Year" and a Grammy nomination for
writing "Wide Open Spaces," title
track of Dixie Chicks' multi-platinum Grammy Award
winning album.
